NATIVE ARICA SPECIAL 2021
WE ARE A LITTLE SPOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE UNIVERSE
FULL OF SHAPES AND COLORS
BUT OUR PLANET IS SICK.
IN LESS THAN TEN YEARS THE DAMAGE WILL BE IRREVERSIBLE.
LUCKILY, INDIGENOUS PEOPLES TEACH US
TO PRESERVE LIFE
LISTENING TO THEM AND RESPECTING THEM IS URGENT
HERE WE ARE, FROM THE HEIGHTS PRESERVING OUR TREASURES
HERE WE ARE, REFORESTING DREAMS
HERE WE ARE, CREATING THE LIVING PRESENT
HERE WE ARE, RECOVERING THE MEMORY
HERE WE ARE, OUR LANGUAGE IS IDENTITY AND RESISTANCE
HERE WE ARE AND HERE WE WILL BE
Since 2006 we have shared with Andean communities, in the valleys, pre-cordillera and highlands of Arica and Parinacota, beautiful films to mobilize with the urgent need to preserve the natural and cultural treasures of the planet, which today are threatened by overconsumption and excessive exploitation. In the midst of a health crisis that forces us to take refuge and stop to face the future, we once again raise our screen to share stories that connect with stories that take place far from big cities, in connection and harmony with the environment.
In this new edition, we wonder about the custodians of the planet's native languages, those wise voices that preserve their cultures in the face of homogenization and the installation of official languages. We want to look at the native languages that resist beyond the borders. The 2021 curatorial proposal opens a space to distinguish works that make multiculturalism visible and that promote respect and conservation of the cultural and natural environment, especially of native peoples and rural communities.
As we celebrate our 16th birthday, we dedicate this new installment of the Festival with affection to the rural and indigenous communities of the world, who today, more than ever and urgently, must listen carefully...
